As with a majority of the Organization, Zexion's fighting style mirrors that of a Final Fantasy class. In this case, he is most similar to a Blue Mage, who makes use of his opponent's skills by imitating them. Zexion's primary element is illusion, shapeshifting is an additional bonus to his set of attacks, and it makes mimicking his foes an easy task. Additionally, he is capable of absorbing blows with his book, which appears to be his main job in 358/2 Days when placed in the party.
As far as the upcoming Kingdom Hearts game is concerned, that is all the articles and previews have confirmed thus far on Zexion's combat form.
Trivia #1: Zexion is the only boss who gives experience points in battle.
Trivia #2: He has the lowest hit point and defense out of the Organization.
Zexion is an actual boss in the remake of the game he originally debutted in, Re:Chain of Memories. He fights Riku after failing to manipulate him by taking on the appearance of Sora in an attempt to have him succumb to the light. Here he makes use of the card system in Castle Oblivion and hoards Riku's cards, taking them to form clones of himself. When the process is set in motion, there are three of him in the battlefield, each of them wielding a carbon copy of Soul Eater. Furthermore, Zexion is capable of conjuring a powerful blast.
Those are merely the list of abilities he may gain access to after making two duplicates of himself. Normally, before he creates copies with the cards he takes from Riku's stash, he resorts to fighting with a lexicon. He is able to form various attacks, although it's mostly for show when compared to his primary choice of weapon: the darkness itself. Zexion has the penchant of going to the corner of the little land on Destiny Island and forming a huge field of darkness, which forces Riku to run to the side and start jumping for his dear health.
Another performance he puts on is where a ball of darkness floating in the air that causes Riku to look up at the questionable blob, when Zexion comes up from behind and bear hugs him to lift him up to the source. It deals a considerable amount of damage to Riku if he is unable to escape from his captor's grasp. Unfortunately, Zexion learns the hard way that the boy does not appreciate the contact.
In Final Mix+ there are ghosts who take the form of fallen Organization XIII members. Zexion is naturally one of them, as he is eliminated a year prior to the setting. Absent Silhouettes are spheres of darkness that float in the darkness until they are challenged by Sora to a fight, when they take form of the respective member whose symbol they were representing in the sphere.
Zexion's Absent Silhouette may be found in the Underworld, in the inner chamber of the Cave of the Dead (as ironically appropriate as that sounds). While his particular sphere shows no specific element, there is an image of his lexicon fading in and out, alluding to his affinity toward illusions. Once this floating ball of darkness is approached and challenged, a fight commences as it takes the form of Zexion.
The fighting style is completely different from the way he fights against Riku. Here he floats around and makes full use of his lexicon, introducing a new ability that warps Sora and the others to an alternate dimension of sort dubbed the Book World. This is when the Absent Silhouette's power is in prime, as there are numerous books in which only one is real, and Zexion is hidden from view. However, Sora's command menu is warped when in this dimension, and for the better to boot:
Aside from the Book World, the Absent Silhouette summons beams of darkness from the lexicon. He also produces many copies of said book and forms tornadoes and walls to protect himself while dealing damage. Notably, he can trap a character in his book which causes the victim to lose his hit points at a steady rate. Strangely, the only attack he ever uses when not in the Book World is turning Sora and the others into books. Everything else takes place in the alternate dimension.
Most importantly, the Absent Silhouette's ultimate technique sports three spotlights, where one is of different color. Sora must step into that lone circle before the time is up, else a barrage of meteors will come and mercilessly strike him. This is also a desperation move, for if Sora makes it to the right circle before the meteors come, it's an automatic win.
